2010 Season
Keep up to date on Tyler Young's racing career below.

On Sunday afternoon October 3rd Tyler Young and the Randco Industries team visited historic North Wilkesboro Speedway.
October 3rd,2010
After a promising test 2 weeks prior
Tyler was anxious to get back in action on the big 5/8 mile speedway. During
practice on Saturday the crew worked methodically to extract just the feel Tyler
was looking for from the car. The guys were very optimistic heading into
qualifying, and Tyler ran what he and crew chief Greg Ely felt was a very
respectable lap, which turned out to only net them a 12th place starting spot.
They still felt very optimistic heading into the race.
At the start Tyler reported he needed to be able to get on the gas more
aggressively. When they finally got a caution at lap 90 Tyler came to pit road,
took 4 tires and adjusted the track bar. After a few laps Tyler reported the car
to be better so that when the caution flew on lap 127 Tyler headed to pit road
for fuel with no adjustments. When the race restarted Tyler held his own for a
few laps then started to struggle with forward bite off the corner. By the time
the caution flew again on lap 190, Tyler had lost a lap to the leaders. On pit
road the the gang gave Tyler 4 tires and a chassis adjustment in the LR. Tyler
was able to restart next to the leader and when the green flag flew Tyler dogged
the leader until he completed the pass and raced himself back on the lead lap.
When the caution came out a couple of laps later Tyler circled the track to
catch back up to rear of the field. Restarting 13th over the last 45 laps Tyler
fought his way into the 9th position. Tyler commented that that was probably the
hardest race he'd ever run, but equally the most fun.
During the Championship Series Tyler has recorded a trio of 9th place
finishes, solidifying his hold on the 7th place points position. The guys head
to Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC on October 9th, then finish the
season at South Boston Speedway on November 6th.

Beating The Rain in Bristol.
September 16th,2010
This past Saturday proved to be one of the longest days in Tyler's Pro Cup
career. After watching it rain for most of the day, it stopped, the track dried
and the cars called to the race track for practice. After getting 9 laps Tyler
came to the garage for an adjustment. That's when the skies opened up once more.
When Qualifying was scrubbed Tyler got to line up in the 7th spot by virtue of
his points position.  Tyler and the Randco Industries crew were pretty confident
about their car, it had performed well at the test 2 weeks prior.
On the start Tyler settled into the 7th spot and rode, letting the laps wind
down. He reported his car to need a little help on the gas so when the caution
flew on Lap 41 the crew put 1 ½ rounds in the left rear. Tyler charged through
the pack back into the top 10 and rode until the next caution on Lap 84. The
gang added 11 gallons of gas and sent Tyler on his way. When the next caution
flew on Lap 95 they decided now was a good time to take their 4 tires. Tyler
rejoined the race and prepared to do battle over the last half of the race.
Tyler settled into the 7th position and fought a car that didn't quite have the
speed it did on the previous set of tires. On lap 161 the leaders put Tyler a
lap down and on Lap 164 the caution flew seeming to give the #02 gang the Free
Pass. A scoring error gave the Free Pass to the wrong car, and on the ensuing
restart Tyler was have deemed to have jumped the start. A pass through penalty
later locked the gang 3 laps down and into a 9th place finish. Tyler and the
gang were very happy to leave Bristol in one piece, but regret letting the
potential for a top 5 finish slip through their fingers.
Over the next couple of weeks Tyler will head to North Wilkesboro, NC to
test and follow that up with a test at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Tyler has
not raced at either of these tracks but looks forward to two historic stops on
the 2010 Pro Cup tour

Disappointment at Concord
Last Saturday the Randco Industries crew headed to Concord Speedway, Concord, NC
to arguably one of the toughest tests for Tyler and the gang. Earlier in the
week Tyler and the boys spent half a day at the speedway testing with multi-time
Concord Speedway champion Kevin Love giving Tyler advise on how best to attack
the uniquely shaped speedway. Saturday was showtime to see if the lessons
imparted by Kevin took. They did. Looking like he'd been racing there his entire
life , not his first visit, Tyler quickly and consistently kept his times in the
top 10 during practice. A little disappointed in qualifying with a car that
didn't seem to have any speed on new tires, the guys none the less settled in
with what appeared to be a pretty good race car.
When the green flag finally flew, Tyler jumped into the top 10 and prepared
to run down some laps. Tyler reported the car to be very easy to drive and
didn't think he would need any changes when he stopped. Tyler kept himself out
of trouble until the first round of pit stops on lap 127. Opting for tires
instead of fuel, crew chief Greg Ely thought half a race on tires was all Tyler
needed to bear. Rejoining the fray Tyler kept himself on the lead lap until lap
199. On lap 204 an overzealous lead lap car turned Tyler around in the short
chute and Tyler collected one other car. Without losing another lap Tyler got
his car to pit road where the over the wall guys made quick repairs, changed
right side tires and returned Tyler to the track without losing a lap. Over the
next 45 laps Tyler fought a damaged race car, lost 2 more laps and finished 9th.
Not the finish we were hoping for , but a good day at what many will say is the
toughest stop on the Pro Cup tour in 2010.
Tyler and his crew are heading to Bristol Motor Speedway on September 11th.
Everyone at Young's Motorsports has looked forward with anticipation towards
this race all year.

Perseverance paid off handsomely for Tyler Young and the Randco Industries/ Manpower to Horsepower Chevy at Langley Speedway Saturday August 14.
August 20th,2010
Perseverance paid off handsomely for Tyler Young and the Randco Industries/ Manpower to Horsepower Chevy at Langley Speedway Saturday August 14. After making progress all day with a race car that was tight on the throttle during practice, the crew made additional changes before the start of the Need For Speed 250. After a 13th place qualifying run crew chief Greg Ely decided to take a penalty and make additional changes on the car before the race started. Those changes paid off as for the first time all day Tyler reported his car to be “edgy” loose on the throttle. Tyler broke into the top 10 on lap 8 and remained there the rest of the evening. On the first caution on lap 41 the crew quickly added a little wedge to the Left Rear to let Tyler be more aggressive on the throttle. As the race continued Tyler reported he might feel more comfortable now, but the car was faster before, “Can we split the difference?” On a Lap 78 caution the crew did just that and topped the fuel tank off. 110 laps later Tyler got the caution he was needing in order to stop and take his tires. Reporting his car to be very drivable Tyler felt ready to do battle over the last 70 laps. Tyler quickly settled in at 8th as the race started to wind down. On lap 240 Tyler stood 7th, lap 245 6th and as the race progressed into a Green, white, checker, finish Tyler now was in 5th. On the restart on lap 262 Tyler drove by the #23 car into 4th for his career best Pro Cup finish. Tyler and the entire crew are elated over the finish and most importantly the progress Tyler and the team are making each and every time they go to the track. The Randco Industries gang have a week off then head to Concord, NC. On August 28th planning to maintain the momentum they have built up over the year.

Tyler Young comes away with a top ten run at Iowa Speedway.
July 30h, 2010
Last Friday night, Tyler Young and the Randco Industries Chevrolet took on Iowa Speedway. As a companion race to the NASCAR Nationwide series race, it was a big weekend for the USAR series. This would be Tyler’s third appearance in Newton, IA. On Thursday, the Young’s Motorsports team tested car 007 to prepare for the following day’s race. The team felt that they made big gains as the test progressed. Friday morning brought rain that would delay practice into the afternoon. All the rubber from the previous day’s test was washed away, leaving the teams to face a green race track. Finally after hours of delay, the teams were able to get onto the track to make some critical last minute runs and decisions before race time.
It looked as though the rest of the day would continue as schedule, until Mother Nature stepped in yet again. After only a few cars made their qualifying laps, a downpour washed out qualifying. This would mean that the starting lineup for the Blue Ox 150 would be set by the championship points standings. This would leave Tyler Young and the Manpowertohorsepower.com car to start in 8th place. After a delay and a massive effort from the jet driers, it was finally race time. On the initial start, a car spun in turn 3 and 4 bringing out the caution and a call to retry the initial start. This time, a massive wreck right at the start-finish line took out several contenders in what could only be described “The Big One”. Luckily, Tyler Young was able to slip through the smoke and carnage without even a scratch. Finally, after the 4th attempt at the initial start, the race was able to continue.
The Young’s Motorsports car battled hard and ran in the top 10 all race long. The car’s handling was fairly neutral and was handling well all night. During a caution on lap 51, Tyler brought the 02 car down pit road for some fuel and a quick adjustment. The next lap, he returned to pit road for four new tires. Tyler radioed later that the adjustment helped the car to turn better and was able to drive the Randco Industries/Manpowertohorsepower.com car up to 7th place. Around lap 107, the 02 car did fall a lap down. But, after a lucky break due to a caution from fog, the 02 car was back on the lead lap. Unfortunately, the dense fog would end the Blue Ox 150 30 laps short of its scheduled length. But this would mean a top ten and a lead lap finish for Tyler Young and the Young’s Motorsports team.
Next, Tyler Young and the Randco Industries/Manpowertohorsepower.com car are headed to Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA. This will mark the return of car 1301 that has had much success over the season, including an 8th place at South Boston and a 6th place at Gresham.

Tyler Young comes away with a top ten run at Motor Mile Speedway.
July17h, 2010
After a month off due to the tough economy, the USAR series made a stop last Saturday night at the famous Motor Mile in Radford, VA for the Heritage Truck Centers 250.  After a strong top 10 finish at South Boston Speedway with car 1301, Tyler Young and the Randco Industries Young’s Motorsports team were looking to carry that momentum into the weekend and bring home a strong finish.
From the beginning of practice, the team struggled with electrical issues that were previously seen in a test only a few days earlier.  After a few runs the issues were resolved. Tyler and the Randco Industries Team then set their focus on fine tuning the handling of the car, as well as the engine performance. Going out first for qualifying, Tyler earned a 14th place starting position for the race and would have to work his way up through the field towards the front of the pack.
Excitement was high as the green flag waved. A missed shift by a car up front caused moments of excitement in the back. Some slight damage to the hood was the product for the 02 Randco Industries car as the cars backed up at the start. But, patient maneuvering and great restarts throughout the race brought Tyler Young up through the field. After losing a lap to the leaders, some smart pit strategy on a caution gave Tyler and the 02 crew the wave around and their lap back. Tyler drove hard into the top ten.  Unfortunately on lap 172, smoke began to roll out of the back of the 02 Randco Industries machine bringing out a caution. A blown rear gear would disappointingly end the day for Tyler Young’s Motorsports after running lap times competitive with the leaders. The 02 team did manage to bring home a tenth place finish.  Car 1301 will be seen next at Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA on August 14th.
This Friday night, Tyler Young and the 02 crew are headed to Newton, Iowa’s Iowa Speedway for the USAR Iowa 150. Tyler has raced at Iowa in both 2009 and 2008, with finishes of 14th and 30th, respectively. The team has been working very hard to prepare car 007 for this big event and will be testing this Thursday before the race. This car was last run at Rockingham where it finished 13th.

Tyler Young comes away 8th at South Boston Speedway.
June15th, 2010
Last Saturday night, Tyler Young and the Randco Industries/Young’s
Motorsports Team headed to South Boston, Virginia for the
Strutmasters.com 250. After a successful test at the speedway only a
few months prior, hopes were high for the team heading into the
weekend. Tyler is no rookie to South Boston Speedway.  In 2008, Tyler
finished a strong 13th, after qualifying at the back of the pack.
After a mechanical issue diminished Tyler’s chances at a good finish
last season, Tyler was looking to redeem himself and bring home a
solid run.
Tyler qualified a strong 12th for the main event Saturday night.
With a decent handling car, Tyler was able to steadily work his way up
through the pack to 9th, when the first caution came out. With a quick
restart the Randco Industries number 02 car was up to 8th. After
several laps of battling door to door with his fellow competitors, the
02 car fell back to the 11th position. The Young’s Motorsports crew
caught a lucky break, though. Just after being passed by the leader, a
caution came out putting the 02 team back on the lead lap. Tyler’s car
was a little snug all night, but a caution on lap 126 allowed the crew
to fill the car full of fuel and make the right adjustments to send
Tyler and the 02 car to the front of the pack. Running as high as the
top five, another caution on lap 166 allowed the Randco Industries
Chevrolet to pit for two right side tires and a track bar adjustment.
The Young’s Motorsports team finished the race with a respectable 8th
place finish. This was a well earned finish at the track known to have
a reputation as being tough on young talent.
Tyler and the crew are now busy preparing to head to Lake Erie
Speedway in North East, PA on Saturday, June 26th. The team will be
taking car 1301, the same car they have had so much success with this
season, including South Boston.

Tyler Young finishes 13th after a long weekend at Rockingham.
May 20th, 2010
Tyler Young and the Randco Industries team headed to Rockingham with high
expectations. With a good test under their belt and a fresh, rebuilt powerplant
Tyler was very confident in what the team had brought to Rockingham for him.
Things didn't go quite as planned as the car struggled all weekend long trying
to turn “normal” RPMs. The highest RPM the team turned was 7900, while all the
other teams were turning 8400. The team worked extremely hard all weekend and
changed transmission, rear end gear, carburetor and a lot more trying to coax
RPM out of the car. At the Saturday morning start up they discovered an oil
scavenge line leaking that took the team right up to the race start to fix.
Right from the start it was evident the final changes brought no cure for
the RPM issue and Tyler would just have to do the best he could all day.  Tyler
stated on quite a few occasions during the race how well the car handled in the
corners and how he struggled running down the straights. Tyler and the team
persevered through the agonizing day and ended up 14th, at the finish, later
moved to 13th because of a competitors disqualification.
Tyler and the gang are bringing out car #1301, the same car they have run
everywhere but Rockingham. The ProCup tour heads to Langley Va. On May 29th.
With a proven powerplant the team feels the same issues that plagued them at The
Rock will not bother them at Langley so they can concentrate on finding the setup that Tyler will like.

Tyler Young comes away 11th at Hickory Motorspeedway
May 13th, 2010
Last Saturday the USAR Pro Cup cars paid their annual visit to the historic Hickory Speedway. The Randco Industries/Young’s Motorsports Team was anxious to get back in action to build on their early season success. The trip to Hickory turned into a humbling but learning experience for Tyler and the whole crew. Fighting a car that would just not drive up off the corners strong, they know that it was going to be a long night. After qualifying a season worst 16th, the gang vowed to hang tough and fight all night long.
With perseverance, some aggressive pit strategy from crew chief Greg Ely, and good old fashioned racing luck the gang toughed it out for an 11th place finish, only 1 lap down. Tyler stated that “that was the hardest he’s had to work in the car this year and was very thankful of the off season strength and conditioning work and the program he’s been sticking to.” We’ve got some work to do on this type of race track but a scheduled test at Langley will hopefully go a long way towards healing some of those issues.”
The Young’s Motorsports team heads to Rockingham next for a May 15th race. They will race a car Tyler hasn’t raced yet, but has tested at Hickory, Bristol and Rockingham.

Tyler Young Impressive performance.... disappointing result at New Smyrna.
April 28th,2010

Tyler Young and the Randco Industries Chevy Impala went to New Smyrna for the Crane Cams 250 with high expectations following the opening week result at Gresham. With but about 30 laps on a track Tyler hadn't seen before, Tyler started the evening off with a bang by qualifying a career best 10th.
When the green flag waved Tyler quickly moved himself up to the 6th position by lap 25. Tyler reported the car was a little free in the center of the corner to start a run but that the car came to him rather quickly and he was able to advance his position. A Lap 108 caution gave the Young's Motorsports team a chance to make an adjustment and take on fuel. Tyler reported a few laps later that he actually felt that he liked the car better before so on the next caution the crew put the adjustment back and gave Tyler 2 right side tires. When green flag waved Tyler advanced to the 5th position and stayed there until lap 195, when he got into the turn 2 wall while fighting with the leader to stay on the lead lap. The damage was severe enough to have to go behind the wall, but with little time left in the race and numerous repairs to be made the team had to park the car and settle for a 12th place finish.

The Young's Motorsports team's hot start to 2010 has justified the hard work Tyler and the team have put in over the winter months prepping the fleet of race cars. The team will get the car ready for the next race at Hickory, NC on May 1st.

Heading To New Smyrna Florida.
April 14, 2010
The Young's Motorsports team heads to New Smyrna Beach, Florida  this week for
the USAR Pro Cup Florida 250. New Smyrna Beach is a track that Tyler hasn't been
on before but he's looking forward to the challenge. “Sometimes going to a track
you haven't been to before can not only not be a handicap, but a stimulus to
rally the team around” Tyler stated. “Obviously a good showing there would give
a tremendous boost to your youthful team, especially on top of  the run at
Gresham.” Tyler and the gang are bringing the same car (#1301) that performed so
well for them in Georgia.

Rockingham Test
April 12, 2010
The Young's Motorsports team and driver Tyler Young headed to Rockingham
Speedway on April 10 for a open USAR Pro Cup test session. Tyler and the team
managed over a 100 laps at the biggest track the Pro Cup series will visit this
year. This was Tyler's first time at the historic North Carolina facility and he
came away impressed with the speed and nuances of the track surface. Tyler felt
the team and himself made suitable progress during the course of the test and
really looks forward to returning. The Pro Cup Series returns for their 2010
event on May 15th.

Young’s Motorsports has solid top ten run at the USAR opener at Gresham Motorsports Park.
March 28 2010

Young’s Motorsports racing season is under way as the 2010 USAR Pro Cup season is in full swing after the season opener at Gresham Motorsports Park March 27th. Preparation for the season opener began back in January as the crew strived to get the cars in top notch shape for the long year ahead. “We went down and tested at Gresham a few weeks before the race and really learned a lot”, said Tyler Young. As the race weekend got under way everyone really worked hard and things went pretty smooth for the #02 guys. Tyler Young Qualified in the 13th position but was forced to the rear of the field for the start of the race which meant it was going to be an up hill climb. “As the race progressed  the car stayed pretty neutral and we really didn’t make a whole lot of changes to the car, had a few close calls early on  but finished 6th so it was a real good day”, stated Tyler Young in a post race interview. Tyler Young and the whole team are excited about the 2010 season and looking forward to the next race at New Smyrna Speedway April 17th.
